The Ekiti State Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Musa Arogundade, has dismissed reports that he has resigned from office, describing the claim as baseless, untrue and misleading.
Arogundade, who spoke with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, said he remained the duly appointed chairman of the party in Ekiti State and had no reason to resign from the position. He explained that his appointment was made during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in May 2026, stressing that any decision to relinquish the position would have to be formally communicated to the appropriate national organs of the party.
The NDC chairman urged party members and supporters in the state to disregard the resignation rumour, assuring them that there was no crisis between him and the leadership of the party.
According to him, disagreements and internal differences are normal occurrences in political organisations and should not be misconstrued as a breakdown of the party’s structure.
“I just want to debunk the rumour that is circulating in the media that I, Honourable Musa Arogundade, resigned my appointment as the State Chairman of NDC in Ekiti State.
“I have been duly appointed by the leaders and stakeholders of the party in May this year, and I don’t see anything. Every political party has differences. They have their internal crisis. I just want to plead with every member of NDC that there is no issue at all between me and the leaders of the party,” he said.
Arogundade further said the state executive members were working in collaboration with the party leadership towards strengthening the NDC and positioning it for success in the 2027 general elections. He expressed confidence in the presidential ambition of the party’s candidate, Peter Obi, predicting that the former Anambra State governor would emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
“By God’s grace, come January 2027, our party will try on and we will succeed in the coming general election. Our presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, will, by God’s grace, win as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while the council will be the Vice President, by God’s grace, and all our candidates in the state,” he said.
The chairman also emphasised that should he ever decide to resign, such a decision would be formally communicated to the national leadership, which, according to him, inaugurated him into office.
“In politics, many things can happen. So, the leaders, the national leaders of the party, if I want to resign, I will send my resignation letter to the national bodies of the party because I was inaugurated at the national party, the national secretariat, during the last NEC meeting.
“So, if I want to resign, I will put my signature and submit it to the national body of the party, not an individual, not an individual in the party,” Arogundade stated.
He therefore called on NDC members in Ekiti State to remain calm and focused, assuring them that the party’s leadership was committed to working collectively towards victory in the forthcoming elections.
