The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko- Ajisafe, has called on stakeholders and residents to complement government unwavering commitment to making the state clean and epidemic-free .
Stating that Governor Oyebanji recently employed ninety new Environmental Health Personnel coupled with the several acquisition of essential sanitation equipments to sanitize the state.
Commissioner Aluko-Ajisafe disclosed these during a crucial meeting with heads of Environmental Health Officers from Local Governments(LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs)in Ekiti state.
The commissioner tasked the Environmental Health Officers to roll up their sleeves and ensure food cantens/vendors maintain hygiene practices, noting apparent low visibility of Environmental Health Officers at the local government levels. She charged them to work with stakeholders in their areas to achieving clean environments.
Reeling out plans towards free epidemic environments in the state, the commissioner said measures are underway to enhance waste management infrastructure, enforce sanitation regulations, provide comprehensive trainings for officers and prosecutors,
Stringent measures to enforce market sanitation regulations and conduct thorough house-to-house inspections to ensure adherence to sanitation standards.
Commissioner Aluko-Ajisafe urged officers to redouble their efforts and foster collaboration with community leaders to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
She reaffirmed government’s dedication to prioritizing sanitation initiatives and supporting officers in addressing their operational requirements.
The commissioner added that Ekiti State government will soon officially ban usage of Styrofoam , highlighting the significance of proper waste disposal practices.
In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary Mr. Babatunde Alokan outlined key strategies to enhance market sanitation and streamline house-to-house inspections. Stressing the importance of on-the-job trainings, he encouraged officers to forge alliances with relevant authorities to realize shared objectives.
