The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the Court of Appeal’s judgment nullifying a Federal High Court ruling that sought the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Atiku Media Office described the verdict as a significant victory for Nigeria’s democracy, saying it removes all legal obstacles to the ADC’s participation in the 2027 general elections.
The statement also noted that the appellate court’s decision, alongside an earlier Federal High Court judgment affirming the Senator David Mark-led National Executive Committee of the ADC, has resolved all pending legal disputes over the party’s status and leadership.
According to the Atiku Media Office, the Court of Appeal held that the lower court’s judgment was a nullity, ruling that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to institute the suit and that their claims were speculative.
The camp further described the judgment as a victory for democratic pluralism, urging political actors to allow electoral contests to be decided by voters rather than through the courts. It added that the ruling strengthens the ADC’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
