The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) has said the world would be safe from threat of chemical warfare and mass destruction when non proliferation, disarmament and peaceful use of nuclear energy are adopted.
The South West Coordinator of the Centre, Ben Sola Akinlade, made this known on Tuesday at a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti in commemoration of International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Arms every 5th March.
Calling on the Media and relevant stakeholders to enlighten members of the public on the hazard of proliferation of small Arms and Light Weapons . According to the South -West Zonal Office of the National Center…”To sustain collaboration and synergy with other stakeholders and action Security Agencies in identifying, profiling, arrest and prosecute arms traffickers with illicit possession of arms and ammunition within the zone. With cooperation from all relevant stakeholders, Violent crimes if not totally eradicated could be reduced to the barest minimum”
Therefore, report all illegal possession of arms and ammunition to the nearest security agency or directly to the personnel office of NCCSALW.”
The center opined that disarmament was important to maintain international peace, security, uphold principles of humanity, protect civilians and promote sustainable development among others .
While advocating for total prohibiting arms development, production and stockpiling, Ben Sola Akinlade promised to upscale public awareness and sensitization.
