The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has said he had no plans to resign before the expiration of his tenure.
The chairman’s clarification that he had not resigned was contain in a statement signed by his media aide, Simon Imobo-Tswana on Monday.
Recall that a national Newspaper had reported on Monday that Ayu had ‘thrown in the towel’ that his resignation letter was in the custody of a former President of the Senate, David Mark.
While responding, Ayu in his statement described the claim as false, saying that it exists only in the imagination of those touting it.
The statement read, “The attention of the PDP National Chairman has been drawn to sponsored stories in the news media today. The stories purport that the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has resigned. They further add that his purported resignation letter is with ex-Senate President David Mark.
“Our reaction, We state, with all emphasis, that this story is, in its entirety, false, baseless, reckless, inaccurate, and a complete work of fiction. If there is such a resignation, it exists only in the imagination of those who have made themselves available for hatchet jobs.”
It would be recalled that PDP had enmeshed in internal crises after the party’s presidential candidate and his running mate emerged. Some party stakeholders have been calling on Ayu to resign as the chairman of the party since the presidential candidate came from the North to give room to either South West or South – South to produce the leadership of the party.
