Hundreds of residents in Ado Ekiti have benefited from a large-scale free medical outreach programme facilitated by the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, in partnership with other members of the National Assembly from the state and the Ekiti State Government.
The intervention, which targeted underserved communities, offered a wide range of healthcare services including surgeries, free drugs, specialist consultations, health education and general medical care. Speaking during the exercise, the Coordinator of the outreach, Princess Oluwaseye Babatunde, described the initiative as a people-focused programme designed to improve the health and well-being of citizens across the state.

She noted that the outreach recorded remarkable success in delivering critical healthcare services to many beneficiaries, especially residents who lacked the financial means to access quality treatment.
In the eye care segment of the programme, ophthalmology specialist, Dr. Kamal Umar, said numerous patients with vision-related conditions received life-changing treatment.
According to him, the medical team successfully carried out several surgeries, including cataract removals and glaucoma procedures, while patients were also given essential medications at no cost.
Dr. Umar explained that the procedures would normally cost beneficiaries huge sums, but were made available free under the outreach, thereby reducing financial burdens and restoring sight to many.
He added that the programme also emphasised preventive eye care and early diagnosis, stressing that many of the cases treated could have deteriorated without timely intervention.
Beneficiaries commended Senator Bamidele, other federal lawmakers and the state government for bringing quality healthcare services closer to the grassroots.
They described the outreach as impactful, life-saving and a clear demonstration of responsive leadership committed to the welfare of the people.
