Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have repelled a coordinated attack launched by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, reportedly killing more than 25 insurgents during the encounter.
The terrorists were said to have launched the assault from multiple directions in an attempt to overwhelm the troops and gain access to their position. However, the military personnel mounted a strong resistance and successfully thwarted the attack.
Sources familiar with the operation said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce confrontation, forcing the insurgents to retreat after suffering heavy casualties. More than 25 terrorists were reportedly neutralised in the counter-operation.
The successful defence is another indication of the continued efforts by troops of Operation Hadin Kai to frustrate terrorist activities and protect communities in the North-East. The military has continued to sustain operations against ISWAP and other insurgent groups operating in the region.
The latest development also underscores the persistent security challenges facing Borno State, where military formations and communities have remained targets of insurgent attacks. Troops are expected to maintain pressure on the terrorists to prevent further attacks and restore lasting peace across affected areas.
