Ekiti journalists have been charged to be objective in their reportage, saying journalists are representatives of God .
Pastor Mike Abidakun and Alhaji Abdul Mutoli gave the charge on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti during the 2025 Prayer Session organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council.
In his sermon, Pastor Mike Abidakun of CAC Living Seed Assembly Olujoda, Ado Ekiti, urged journalists to use their profession to fulfill divine purposes,
Saying God is the God of purpose, plan, He has programmed everything right from the foundation of the world and He created the world to be habitable. You are in this profession to fulfill purpose , to represent God, you will give account how you discharge your duties”
He further tasked Ekiti
Journalists to speak the truth, be factual in your report,
impact lives positively, promote justice and discharge your duties without sentiment, fear or favour
Above all, let the fear of God guide you in all you do”
On his part, the Chief Imam, Ansar-u-deen society, Alhaji, Abdul Mutolib urged journalists to discharge their duties without ethnic and religious sentiments, and charged members to love themselves, saying that’s the only way to move the union forward.
“The profession is full of dangers, we need to ask God for His guidance and security.
“Can you face the battle with pen and paper? It’s only the intervention of the God that can protect you. Do your job with sincerity and honesty so that God can be our guide.
“I am calling on all journalists to report without any ethnic or religious sentiment, discharge your job and God will protect you.
“Don’t hide the truth, be sincere without being hindered by any possible favour attached to the premises of the situation.
“Create love within yourself, God cherish any gathering that they love themselves.BLet’s love each other, let’s make ourselves a union irrespective of the perspective of the public”.
In his remarks, the chairman of the union, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi,
appreciated members unflinching support in the just concluded year, solicited their unwavering support for 2025. He assured members of his dedication to the progress of the union.
