The Cross River State Government has commenced an oil and gas skills training programme for 2,000 youths across the state as part of efforts to equip young people with relevant technical and professional skills.
The programme, organised under the theme, “Skill Up in the Season of Sweetness,” offers beneficiaries CPD-accredited certificate and diploma training designed to prepare them for opportunities within the oil and gas industry.
Governor Bassey Otu, represented at the launch by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, said the initiative was part of his administration’s People First Agenda, particularly its focus on human capital development and youth empowerment.
Ayambem said the oil and gas sector offers opportunities in areas including engineering, logistics, safety, environmental management, procurement, maintenance and data services. He urged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously and continue developing their skills beyond the programme.
Otu said the training represented an investment in the beneficiaries, their families and communities, as well as the productive capacity of the state. He added that his administration would continue to introduce initiatives that expand access to skills, enterprise opportunities and employment for young people.
