The Ekiti State House of Assembly member-elect, (APC -Ido-Osi II), Yomi Ayorinde, has expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency, former governor Kayode Fayemi, Governor Biodun Oyebanji and party leaders for their support which gave him victory at the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Ayorinde expressed his appreciation in an interview with newsmen shortly after he received his certificate of return from INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Ayobami Salami, in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.
Ayorinde, polled 4,463 to defeat other political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – 589 and Social Democratic Party, (SDP) – 982 votes.
He appreciated the electorates in his constituency for standing firm with the party and ensure that their votes count in his favour despite unwholesome activities of those that plotted to undermine and truncate the popular wishes of the people.
The former Board member of the National Broadcasting Commission, (NBC) thanked the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, his successor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, party leadership in the State and all leaders and members of APC in Ido-Osi constituency II.
Ayorinde, also the immediate past Chairman, State Urban Renewal Agency Board, also applauded the people of Ayetoro, Ilogbo, Osi and Usi-Ekiti for the opportunity given him to serve.
He said, “Despite the change in the date of the elections, our people stood firm. This has shown that the people indeed have become not only politically awaken, but defender of democracy.”
He lauded the security agencies for responding promptly to complaints in flashpoints areas.
He also gave kudos to his opponents for being courageous enough to concede defeat, disclosing that some of them had send a text and call to congratulate him on his victory.
The assembly member -elect further thanked traditional rulers, religious leaders, market men and women, artisan, societies group and youths for their support before during and after the elections.
Calling for more support from his constituents to enable him represent them well in the Assembly. He promised that he would give his best in accordance with the mandate given to him by his people.
