The Seventh Ekiti State House of Assembly has commenced its third anniversary with a declaration of significant achievements in lawmaking, oversight functions, institutional reforms and digital transformation, saying it remains committed to legislative excellence and good governance in the state.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Babatunde Oke, disclosed this during a press conference held at the Assembly Complex in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday as part of activities commemorating the Assembly’s third year in office.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, and other members of the Assembly, Oke said the 7th Assembly had recorded substantial progress in implementing its legislative agenda since its inauguration on June 6, 2023. He noted that the agenda was designed to promote responsive lawmaking, effective oversight, ethical conduct, digital transformation, public participation, administrative efficiency and poverty reduction through legislation.
According to him, the Assembly has passed 33 bills into law since inception, saying all the bills received governor’s assent. He disclosed that nine major bills were enacted during the third legislative session between June 2025 and May 2026, including the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law, the Ekiti State College of Technology, Ijero-Ekiti Law, the 2026 Appropriation Law, the Commercial Motorcycle Operators Regulatory Law and amendments to the Electoral Law and Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
Oke explained that the legislation was aimed at strengthening governance, improving public administration, enhancing economic development, promoting public safety and deepening democratic governance. He described the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law as a landmark reform designed to improve internally generated revenue, eliminate multiple taxation, promote transparency and create a more business-friendly environment for investors.
The lawmaker also highlighted the Assembly’s oversight activities across critical sectors of the economy, including education, health, agriculture, security and public finance. He said the House conducted investigations into issues affecting public institutions, monitored rural road projects across the state, engaged stakeholders on food security and land disputes, and maintained regular scrutiny of budget implementation by ministries, departments and agencies.
On democratic governance and constitutional reforms, Oke said the Assembly actively participated in the ongoing constitutional amendment process and advocated key national reforms such as state police, true federalism, resource control, legislative autonomy, recognition of Local Council Development Areas and the strengthening of democratic institutions. He added that the House also intensified advocacy for voter registration and increased citizens’ participation in elections.
The Assembly further identified digital transformation as one of its most notable achievements within the last three years. Oke said the legislature had developed an e-Parliament framework, tested a legislative application, commenced a transition to paperless legislative processes, upgraded its broadcast infrastructure and strengthened EKHA TV. He noted that the digitisation of legislative operations had positioned the Ekiti Assembly among the leading technology-driven state legislatures in Nigeria.
As part of activities marking the anniversary, the Assembly has scheduled a quiz competition among representatives of the 26 constituencies on Wednesday , a novelty football match between lawmakers and members of the State Executive Council, a special anniversary sitting featuring the dedication of a digitised chamber and thanksgiving services. Oke expressed appreciation to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, members of the media and the people of Ekiti State for their support, assuring that the Assembly would continue to uphold transparency, accountability and people-oriented legislation in the remaining years of its tenure.
Addressing the abduction of worshippers in Eda Oniyo, the lawmakers said all necessary measures were being taken in conjunction with the state government and relevant security agencies to ensure the victims return home safely and unharmed
