The Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi has assured the people of the state that the Ekiti Agro – Allied cargo airport and other on-going legacy projects embarked on by his administration would be completed before the expiration of his tenure in office.
The governor told journalists during a tour of the cargo airport and other projects in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday. He said that government was doing everything possible to deliver the airport before the expiration of his administration in October, 2022.
Governor Fayemi who was conducted round the on-going terminal building, the 3.2km runway and other sections of the airport, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done so far by the contractor adding that government attached great importance to the speedy completion of the airport.
The governor asserted that the various legacy projects put in place by his administration were designed to completely change the character of the state by turning it to an economic zone.
The Governor added that the idea of knowledge zone was about using knowledge for wealth creation in the drive to turn Ekiti to a destination of choice for innovation, creativity, startup activities, talent city for Engineers, Computer Technologists, Agricultural Technologists, biotechnology and medical tourism in line with the Afe Babalola multi-systems hospital.
According to the Governor, “the Ekiti Airport’s 3.2km runway was constructed with the capacity to accommodate all types of aircraft. t
The airport would also have facilities for the Nigeria Airforce to have their own operations as well as for maintenance and associated engineering components.”
He said that the airport project when completed and the Ekiti knowledge zone would attract more local and foreign investment in to the state, create employment opportunities among other benefits.
The governor maintained that his administration had ensure the implementation of sustainable policies and infrastructural development adding that the incoming government would continue with the vision of accelerating the industrial development of the state.
The governor also inspected the ongoing building project at the Harding Model College situated at oke-sha, the road rehabilitation work within the state secretariat and the UBEC Model School.
