The Ekiti State Government has held a one-day Joint Annual Review to assess the performance of the state’s health sector against agreed indicators, targets and Annual Operational Plans.
The review, held in Ado-Ekiti, focused on equity, quality and coverage, with emphasis on identifying gaps and developing strategies to improve healthcare delivery across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said the review would deepen accountability, promote evidence-based planning and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders in the health sector.
Filani said the exercise provided a strategic platform to assess achievements recorded so far in 2026, identify areas requiring improvement and make practical recommendations for better healthcare service delivery at all levels.
He urged stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and coordination while remaining committed to evidence-based interventions that would improve access to quality healthcare services and accelerate better health outcomes for residents.
The commissioner reiterated the commitment of the Gov. Biodun Oyebanji-led administration to providing accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services to residents of the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, described the review as necessary for evaluating past performance, assessing current realities and making informed decisions towards achieving set targets.
She urged participants to actively contribute their expertise to ensure the review produced meaningful and implementable outcomes.
In separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals’ Management Board, Dr Olasunkanmi Alabi; the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Health, Dr Olubunmi Ibitoye; and the Project Manager, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), Dr Adewole Osilade, expressed confidence that the exercise would promote mutual accountability and strengthen data-driven decision-making.
They commended the state government for prioritising the review, saying it would enhance quality assurance, improve efficiency and contribute to better health services for residents.
Presentations and discussions at the review focused on key programme areas, including reproductive health, family planning, adolescent health, Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR), immunisation and other priority interventions.
The review brought together government officials, development partners, civil society organisations, programme managers, media professionals and other stakeholders in the state’s health sector.
