The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has pledged to support the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) in ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free local government election scheduled for December 2026.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Ekiti State, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, gave the assurance when the SIEC Chairman, retired Justice C.I. Akintayo, led commissioners and principal officers of the commission on a courtesy visit to the command headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Adeoye said the command would provide necessary traffic management and safety support before, during and after the election to ensure the smooth movement of electoral personnel and materials.
He explained that the corps would inspect and certify vehicles designated for election duties to prevent mechanical breakdowns that could disrupt logistics and electoral activities.
The Sector Commander also listed enforcement of movement restrictions on election day, except for personnel performing essential electoral duties, and the deployment of officers to polling units alongside other security agencies as part of the FRSC’s responsibilities during elections.

He assured the commission that the corps would remain neutral and professional in the discharge of its duties, in accordance with the code of conduct guiding security agencies during elections.
Earlier, Akintayo said the visit was to formally notify the FRSC of the commission’s preparedness for the forthcoming council polls and seek its collaboration in ensuring a free, fair and credible exercise.
He stressed the need for effective traffic management to prevent road obstructions, congestion and breakdowns involving vehicles conveying electoral personnel and materials, noting that such incidents could create opportunities for electoral violence and other malpractices.
The SIEC chairman commended the FRSC for its commitment to road safety and effective collaboration with other security agencies, which he said contributed to the success of the last governorship election in the state.
