The Online Media Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council on Thursday elected new Executives to steer the ship of the Chapel for the next three years.
Comrade Ayodele Abere emerged as the Chairman of the chapel,
Other executive members include: Adeyemi Olajutemu as Vice Chairman, Emmanuel Adeniran as Secretary, Precious Oham as Asst. Secrertary and Adebayo Adenrele as Financial Secretary.
Speaking at the Election, Chairman of Ekiti State NUJ Council, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela commended the chapel for it’s accurate and timely reportage which had earned the chapel recognition in the state.
Ojomoyela, represented by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi also warned the Chapel against enrolling intending members who are not qualified journalists as stipulated in the constitution of the Union.
While charging the members to pay their check-off dues for the progress of the Chapel and the state council, he urged the new executives to be pragmatic in discharging their duties as permitted by law without putting personal interest.
According to the Chairman,
“Payment of check-off due is very crucial as stipulated in the constitution of the Union. Non-payment of the due is the major factor retarding the progress of the council and we need to work towards ensuring that every member pays.
“Make professionalism and hard work your watchword. Online Media has become a vibrant branch of the council as other chapels look up to it as sources of stories” He added
Earlier, the Chairman, NUJ Electoral Council, Comrade Lawrence Ibitoye admonished the contestants to see their emergence as call to service; to reposition the chapel so as to compete with online Media of other states.
Adding that online practitioners are expected to always look out for current happenings in and outside the state to keep general audience abreast.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the chapel, Comrade Ayodele Abere appreciated the leadership of NUJ and members of the Chapel for giving him the opportunity to oversee the affairs of the Chapel for the next 3 years.
He pledged that the new leadership will always put the interest of the chapel above personal interest adding that he would never betray the confidence reposed in him.
On his part, an Ex-Officio at the state council, Comrade Yaquob Popoola also implored the chapel to be disciplined, hardworking and preserve the image of the Chapel.
The Secretary of NUJ, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi administered oath of office on the new Executives .
