The Ekiti State Police Command has issued a stern warning to motorcycle riders across the state, urging them to comply with traffic rules and desist from reckless riding to curb the rising incidence of motorcycle-related accidents.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Command expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents caused by the blatant disregard for traffic regulations by some riders.
According to the statement, many motorcycle operators engage in dangerous practices such as excessive speeding, reckless riding, disobeying traffic lights, dangerous overtaking and other traffic violations, thereby putting their own lives, those of their passengers, pedestrians and other road users at risk.
The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, has consequently directed all officers and personnel responsible for traffic enforcement to intensify patrols and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws across the state.
The police warned that any motorcycle rider found violating traffic regulations would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Command also appealed to passengers to play an active role in promoting road safety by discouraging riders from reckless driving and refusing to board motorcycles operated in a dangerous manner. It further encouraged members of the public to report cases of dangerous riding where necessary, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation of all road users.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Ekiti State Police Command urged motorists, commercial motorcyclists, pedestrians and other road users to exercise patience, discipline and respect for traffic regulations to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives across the state.
