The Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has explained the flooding recorded along the Ido-Ipere-Iludun Road following Tuesday’s heavy rainfall, saying the incident was caused by excessive surface runoff and sedimentation in downstream water channels, rather than poor workmanship.
RAAMP, in a statement signed by its Development Communication Officer, O’Seun Ogunsakin, responding to an online publication NOT PRECISE NEWS that attributed the damage caused by the flood to shady job on the roads, said a technical team led by the State Project Coordinator, Hon. Sunday Adunmo, inspected the road on Wednesday following the directive of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. The team, according to the statement, found that accumulated sediment had restricted water discharge and temporarily caused a backwater effect that inundated portions of the road.
The agency explained that the three major culverts constructed along the road corridor remained structurally sound, with satisfactory inlet conditions and unobstructed upstream water flow. It added that the Ero Bridge, which had earlier experienced flooding since construction began in April 2025, had been replaced with a larger structure to accommodate the volume and flow of water in the area.
RAAMP noted that the flooding occurred amid heavy rainfall and increased surface runoff, following earlier advisories by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on the possibility of flash flooding in several states. It said the ongoing dredging and clearing of water channels by the Ekiti State Government was expected to improve water flow and address drainage constraints along the corridor.
The agency reassured residents of Ido, Ipere and Iludun, as well as commuters and other road users, of the structural integrity of the road constructed by Messrs Syriton Nigeria Ltd. RAAMP urged the public and media to seek clarification from relevant authorities before drawing conclusions on technical matters, stressing its commitment to delivering durable rural infrastructure that would improve connectivity, support agricultural value chains and stimulate economic activities across Ekiti State.
