The Vice Chancellor, Ekiti state University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria, Prof Edward Olanipekun has said 10,894 students would be convoked at the 28th Convocation of the Institution slated for 4th April, 2024.
He added that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Prince Julius Adeluyi and Princess Folorunso Alakija would be conferred with Honorary doctorate degrees.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed these at a press conference to herald the 28th Convocation of the Institution on Monday at the school premises. Giving the classification of the graduands, the Vice Chancellor said 91 students made first class, 3262 made second Class Upper Division, 6411, Second Class Lower Division, 747 made Third Class while 4 graduated with Pass. Adding that College of postgraduate studies had 155 graduands. Ph. D 73, Masters 81 and PGD 1.
The VC hinted that EKSU under his leadership placed high premium on quality programmes; teaching, learning and research which made the institution a top- notch across the globe. He attributed the successes recorded to the unweaving support of Governors Biodun Oyebanji and his predecessor, Dr Kayode Fayemi who made the academic environment conducive for learning.
Reeling out his achievements, having administered the Institution for four years and seven months, Prof. Edward said out of 89 programmes being run in the Institution, 70 had been fully accredited, 8 had interim accreditation, only one programme was denied accreditation while 10 were not yet mature for accreditation.
According to the VC, ” I make bold to say we have laid a solid foundation for these programmes to have an easy sail at future accreditations. Aside NUC accreditation, Programmes such as MBBS, Nursing Science, Engineering and Law are accredited by their relevant professional bodies”
The VC listed programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate recently approved by NUC for 2023/2024 academic session to include: B.SC Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Biochemistry, Peace and Conflict Resolution, B.Ed Health Education, Mass Communication, Social Work, International Relations, Intelligence and Security Studies, Food Science and Technology, Public Administration, Ph. D Laboratory Medicine, Surgery, Public Health, Ph. D. Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ph. D Paediatrics and Child Health.
Prof. Olanipekun stressed that 28 gigantic projects have been completed in the Institution through TETFUND, NEEDS ASSESSMENT FUNDS AND INTERNALLY GENERATED REVENUE (IGR).
Adding that his administration prioritized the health of students and staff, which he said necessitated the construction and furnishing of Utra- Modern Medical Wards for male and female, Implementation of the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Policy ( TISHIP), provision of drugs, chemicals and consumables and recalibration of X-ray machine.
While given insight to the convocation programme, the VC said the convocation lecture will be held on 2nd April, Title : The future of Nigeria University System by Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, Former VC University of Ibadan by 12 noon among others.
