The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, Dr Dayo Oladebeye said God has helped him transform the institution to a global standard, Considering its take- off in 1978 with 350 students and 95 Academic Staff .
The Rector said the institution currently has 15000 Full time and part time students , 2000 staff (Academic and non teaching staff ) with 36 departments.
Dr. Oladebeye said” Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti is moving in leaps and bounds as the current administration under my humble leadership and other administrations before me had done its best in harnessing all possible avenues amidst formidable challenges to bring the needed development to the institution”
The Rector at a pre- convocation briefing for the 45th anniversary and 18th combined convocation ceremony slated for this week enumerated some of his achievements to includes:
Construction of laboratory, offices, procurement of technological gadgets, Construction and rehabilitation of roads , construction of dilapidated buildings , construction of health centre, administrative buildings , commissioning of 7.5 KVA solar and given necessary support to both staff and students via training, retraining, development and providing conducive atmosphere for them to maximize their potentials.
The Rector who was appointed on 23rd February, 2018 said the institution will convoke 13667 full time and part time ND and HND students who had completed their studies during 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 sessions.
Highlighting programmes for the convocation, Dr Oladebeye said the Ooni Of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Yeye Aare Modupe Babalola, the CEO of ABUAD VENTURES would be conferred with Fellowship Award Of Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti ( FAFPA)
Adding that 2 Alumus of the institution: Surveyor B.A Fakologbon FNIS and Prince Dr. Rotimi Benjamin Ibidapo
OON would also be awarded. According to the Rector ” The recognition of these eminent personalities who had contributed to the development of humanities is to serve as a source of encouragement to our graduands and students ; for them to know that they too can aspire to whatever heights they aim at”
The Rector who intimated journalists that the institution had many lofty programmes among which are : Establishment of ‘Adopoly’ FM Radio and Ado Poly Microfinance Bank which According to him “would commence operation in no distance time”
Dr. Oladebeye however said despite the numerous achievements of his administration, the institution was faced with many challenges that have slow down the institution’s rapid growth and development.
The Rector listed some of the challenges to include: ageing physical infrastructures, hostel problem, poor sporting facilities, inadequate modern teaching materials, poor staff quarters, poor transportation system and paucity of funds.
Dr. Oladebeye consequently solicited the unflinching support of all well-meaning Nigerians to assist the institution achieve its full mission and vision .
