The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS 8.2 Ekiti State Sector Command, will join millions of people across the globe to commemorate the 2026 United Nations World Bicycle Day on Wednesday, June 3.
World Bicycle Day is celebrated annually on June 3 following its proclamation by the United Nations General Assembly during its 72nd Session in September 2017, in recognition of the bicycle as a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally sustainable means of transportation.
In a statement, the Sector Commander Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye FCIPURS,MICLT highlights critical role cycling plays in promoting healthier communities and a cleaner environment.
According to him, cycling contributes significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions, thereby mitigating environmental pollution and its adverse effects on human health. He added that cycling also helps to reduce traffic congestion, promote physical fitness, and provide an affordable, equitable and accessible mode of transportation for people of all ages.
The Sector Commander encouraged Nigerians to embrace cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice and a practical means of contributing to environmental sustainability. He further invited cycling enthusiasts, sports lovers and members of the public to participate in the commemorative cycling exercise scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. from the FRSC Sector Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
The route will cover Ajebamidele, Ijigbo, Ajilosun and other parts of the Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
Corps Commander Adeoye also urged motorists to always respect the rights of cyclists on the road by giving them adequate space and ensuring their safety at all times.
