The management of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has refuted alleged robbery and rape attacks on students of the University in Ikole study centre, saying the security network of the institution could not allow such incidents on the school campus .
Reacting, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (administration) , Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, said the news that has gone viral with the claim that FUOYE students are decrying incessant robbery and rape attacks on the campus is false and misleading. He clarified that the incidents had happened at off campus.
While reiterating the adequate security network put in place in the institution, Prof. Opoola said: “ FUOYE is a well secured environment for all students and staff. We have put in place security measures that will prevent such tragic incidents. We have very cordial relationship and fruitful cooperations with all our host communities on matters relating to the security of our students.
The alleged incidents of rape and robbery attacks did not happen on our campus in lkole and could not have happened on the campus. We have the best quality of security gadgets and personnel on ground to prevent such incidents of robbery and rape on campus.
So, we urge all our students to be rest assured that they are safe on campus. We also urge them to desist from late night movement and for those living off campus, they should be mindful of their environment. How secured it is , they should not walk alone in lonely, bushy places at odd hours whenever they are outside the campus”
You will recall that an online medium ( NOT PRECISE NEWS) had yesterday reported that students of FUOYE, Ikole campus cried out that unknown persons have been raping and robbing them of their belongings, therefore, calling on well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid.
