No fewer than 12 persons have been reportedly killed and several others sustained various degrees of injuries in an attack on Anyiin and other communities.
The attack was alleged to have been carried out by Fulani herdsmen on Ayilamo, Iorza and Gbeji communities in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the renewed attacks started last Monday with the killing of three innocent persons.
Sources said 9 persons had earlier lost their lives. An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, said apart from invading houses, the attackers blocked Anyiin, Iorza and Gbeji roads in broad daylight, killing more people and collecting money from villagers.
He called on the Benue State Government to provide security for the defenseless people of Anyiin and its environs who are currently under severe attack.
According to him, the herdsmen carried out the attacks on a daily basis in the last two weeks without interruption from security operatives.
Confirming the attacks while speaking with journalists, the Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, said the command had deployed personnel to maintain peace in the troubled communities and called on affected people to remain calm and go about their daily businesses.
