The Nigerian Railway Corporation has begun construction of underground pass and overhead bridges at 11 level crossings in Lagos to avoid accident.
The Managing Director of NRC, Mr Fidet Okhiria made this known to News Agency Of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.
Mr Okhiria said the corporation had started separation of road from the rail in Oyingbo and Ebute-meta. Adding that the corporation had constructed an under- ground pass and overhead pass at Agege level crossing.
According to Okhiria ,” There will be 11 flyovers within Lagos and we cannot do all at the same time. We are constructing them in batches”
He said the barriers the corporation constructed to avoid accident were damaged by Residents, saying repairs are ongoing.
While proffering solutions to train accident, Okhiria said management would deploy men and technology that will alert road users whenever trains get closer to the level crossings.
Okhiria noted that in advance countries people obeyed traffic regulations but Nigeria motorists usually violate traffic signs. He urged motorists to be careful while passing through level crossings, saying life has no duplicate.
Recall, 9th March, there was a train accident that involved Lagos State Staff bus with registration nos. 04A-48LA around Ikeja which claimed lives and left many injured.
