The Ekiti State Government has warned contractors handling public projects across the state against compromising quality, insisting that substandard work will not be accepted under the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Mr Olubunmi Talabi, gave the warning during an inspection tour of ongoing renovation and construction works at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Emure-Ise-Orun-Ekiti.
Talabi, who led a team of professionals from the Bureau of Special Projects on the inspection, said the government remained committed to delivering durable, functional and aesthetically pleasing infrastructure that would provide value for public funds.
He stressed that all contractors must adhere strictly to approved project specifications and timelines, warning that the government would take necessary measures against contractors found compromising standards.
According to him, quality infrastructure remains critical to public safety, economic development and the overall wellbeing of residents, adding that properly executed projects would also enhance the aesthetic value of the state and stimulate economic activities.
The ongoing rehabilitation and construction works at the NYSC camp cover several critical facilities, including corps members’ accommodation, administrative offices, lecture and multipurpose halls, dining facilities, kitchen blocks, staff quarters, roads, drainage systems, water supply and electricity infrastructure.
Other components of the project include solar lighting, recreational facilities and other amenities designed to improve the effectiveness of the orientation and training programmes at the camp.
Talabi expressed satisfaction with the quality of work so far executed, noting that the project was progressing in line with approved specifications and the stipulated delivery schedule.
He said the Oyebanji administration was determined to transform the camp into one of the best NYSC orientation camps in Nigeria, providing corps members posted to Ekiti with a safe, comfortable and conducive environment throughout their orientation programme.
The Special Adviser assured that the government would continue to conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects across the state to ensure strict compliance with approved standards.
He added that the inspection was also part of the administration’s broader commitment to ensuring that public funds were judiciously utilised and that projects delivered by contractors met the required quality and durability standards.
