Residents and commuters were left stranded on Wednesday following a prolonged downpour that flooded major roads in Ondo town, disrupting movement and causing significant hardship.
The affected areas include Itanla, Igba and Ile-Oluji roads, where floodwaters submerged sections of the roads, making them impassable for both motorists and pedestrians.
Commuters and commercial drivers travelling between Ondo and Akure were unable to continue their journeys as the flood cut off access to the major route linking the towns.

Some of the stranded residents appealed to the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to urgently intervene by implementing effective flood control measures to prevent recurring incidents whenever heavy rainfall occurs in the town.
They expressed concern over the increasing frequency of flooding, noting that the situation poses serious risks to lives, property and economic activities.
Residents also pointed out that the Itanla Road, a major federal highway connecting Ondo town with Akure and Ile-Oluji, requires urgent attention from the appropriate authorities to improve drainage infrastructure and ensure the free flow of traffic during the rainy season.
As of the time of filing this report, normal vehicular movement had yet to resume on some of the affected roads, while many commuters remained stranded, hoping that the floodwaters would recede.
