The former House of Representative member and candidate for Ekiti North Federal Constituency one under Social Democratic Party( SDP) in the February 25 Election, Hon. Bimbo Daramola has said vote buying is a cancer that can ruin Nigeria if not quickly curbed
He tasked journalists to enlighten the masses on the dangers of vote buying , saying it would not only produce ineptitude leaders, undermine electoral process but would retard development .
Bimbo Daramola disclosed this at NUJ Press Centre, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State during a Media engagement.
The SDP candidate said his achievements in the Green Chamber between 2011- 2015 placed him ahead of APC and PDP candidates jostling for the post . He added that he is the best candidate for Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1 based on his legislative experience, influence, track records and exposure.
Bimbo Daramola reeled out his achievements to includes:
A 32 bed hospital built and handed over to Ekiti State Government, over 64 vehicles given out as empowerment which he said have raised the living standard of beneficiaries, financial assistance/ scholarships for students and empowerment for women from his federal Constituency among others.
The SDP candidate appealed to his constituents to vote for him in the February Election, saying he would attract more developments to Oye- Ikole Constituency and by extension Ekiti State if emerged victorious.
Bimbo Daramola, further appealed to voters to shun vote buying during the forthcoming election, saying such practice is a cancer that would kill Nigerians if not curbed on time.
According to Hon Bimbo Daramola, “none of his two other major contenders for the House of Representatives position for Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1, from both the APC (Akin Rotimi) and the PDP (Yinka Akerele) has the credentials and records I have as a former law maker at the National Assembly “.
He added that, as a member of 7th National Assembly, “he was able to move 40 motions and sponsored 8 bills”. Saying , “if both Akin Rotimi of the APC and Yinka Akerele of the PDP finds their way into the National Assembly, their only interests will be to be admiring the buildings there”.
Responding to the new naira re-design, Hon. Daramola said it was a good policy provided
it’s meant to fight vote buying during elections in the country, then, it is better. “If naira policy is the shock treatment for everybody in the country, then, it is also better. Vote buying is a cancer and cancerous. It is going to kill all of us. It will eat into the fabrics of the Nation if not handled on time”, he declared.
Daramola further stated that he did not regret leaving his former political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State.
Talking on the State of Ekiti roads, Hon. Daramola bemoaned both Federal and Ekiti Governments for neglecting the roads which had endangered lives of comutters. Saying the roads especially Akure- Ado road has defeated both the APC and the PDP because of their failure and inability to fix it before now.
