Ekiti State Government has organized a 3-Day Technical Workshop on Joint Annual Review for the State health sector
.Declaring the workshop open at Ilupeju-Ekiti , the Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr Oyebanji Filani said the workshop was designed to have an in-depth review of the state health sector data to determine the performance of the sector and access opportunities for improving the state data ecosystem for effective health care service delivery.
The Commissioner further stated that other objectives of the workshop include : reviewing the health sector data from survey, routine and administrative sources as well as identifying areas for interventions to ensure sustained improvement.
Dr Filani expressed appreciation to the Ekiti Governor,Mr Biodun Oyebanji for approving recruitment of a large number of health workers in the state including doctors, Nurses and Midwives as well as Community Health Officers to fill existing vacancies.
Earlier in their goodwill messages the Permanent Secretary, Hospital’s Management Board, Dr Olasunkanmi Alabi; Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rasheed Adepoju; the Project Coordinator of Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), Dr Odilade Adewole lauded the Ekiti state government and UNICEF for initiating the workshop describing it as timely, appropriate and a step in the right direction that would have an enduring impact.
They called on the participants to be attentive and contribute well to the discussion adding that the programme would not only inform them about the various activities and across the state health sector but in addition further build their capacity.
The State Coordinator of WHO, Pharm. Akeem Busari disclosed that Ekiti state has recorded tremendous improvements in the health sector with the most recent reports received by the global health organisation.
Pharm Busari commended the state government for its efforts at improving the health and well being of the residents in the state urging relevant stakeholders to ensure that the positive reports are maintained.
The Director Planning, Research and Statistics and the lead facilitator, Dr Sunday Omoya emphasized that the review workshop would also assess progress towards Ekiti state health goals and objectives as well as inform policy decisions and resources allocation in the sector.
Papers were presented by various facilitators and programme officers as well as health development partners on areas such as: sector wide approach- highlights and progress; 2024 budget performance; introduction to health data sources for state situation analysis; PHC service delivery and data management, Health Insurance, Progress and Challenges,;quality of care improvement in Ekiti State amongst others.
Participants at the workshop include Permanent Secretaries, General Managers, Executive Secretary, Directors, Programme Officers as well as health development partners such as WHO, UNICEF, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), Solina, Johns Hopkins (Jhpiego) and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) amongst others.
