As part of measures to make life healthier for residents of Ekiti State, the Rotary reproductive maternal and child health in collaboration with the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Primary Healthcare Development Agency have organised a joint partners community medical outreach for residents of Aba Igbira, Opopogboro in Ado-Ekiti, Ijurin in Ijero LGA and Iyin in Irepodun Ifelodun LGA Ekiti state.
Speaking at the event in Ado Ekiti, the Rotary Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health Project Officer, Mrs Damilola Ateji highlighted the initiative’s goal to improve access to life-saving services and address rising maternal health issues.
Mrs Ateji explained that the project being implemented in four states across the Country namely Ekiti, Gombe, Nasarawa and Abuja is aimed at reducing high prevalence of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria
She disclosed that the joint partners community outreach was held in three locations of Iyin, Ijurin and Opopogboro in Ado Ekiti representing three local jgovernments areas of Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ijero and Ado respectively to further sensitize stakeholders on steps to tackle their health challenges.
In her remarks, the Ekiti state reproductive health coordinator and Health educator, Dr. Busayo Ige hinted that the state government has made significant efforts at improving the health and wellbeing of Ekiti State residents.
Dr Ige disclosed that the state government has made family planning commodities and services available, provided free malaria tests and treatment, and promotes a healthy lifestyle amongst other steps.
She stressed the importance of residents utilizing the state’s public health facilities which she noted have been equipped and provided with necessary equipment by the current administration to improve healthcare outcomes.
Dr Ige commended Rotary International for the impactful project, emphasizing its potential to improve the health and well-being of the state’s residents.
In an interview, the Bale of Aba Ebira,Opopogboro, Ado Ekiti, Mr. Ibrahim Musa, commended the organizers of the program, stating that the initiative will significantly contribute to the health development of his community.
The free medical outreach involved a range of comprehensive health services, including free eye tests and glasses, consultation, free medical check-ups and treatment, as well as family planning services, among others.
