The outgoing Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has called on Rivers people to rise above bitterness, political rivalry, and self-interest in order to secure peace and sustainable development.
Speaking at an inter-denominational thanksgiving service held at the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, to mark the state’s transition back to democratic governance, Ibas reflected on his six-month tenure, noting that his administration “sowed seeds of love and peace” amid deep divisions and instability.
He urged politicians to “shed their swords,” stressing that no victory was worth the blood of any citizen, and charged youths not to be used as instruments of violence. He also appealed to elders, religious leaders, and community figures to continue guiding the state with wisdom and prayers.
Expressing gratitude, Ibas thanked God, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, and the people of Rivers State for their patience.
The service featured scripture readings by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, while Pastor Barasin Ogan of the Chapel of Everlasting Grace delivered a sermon on unity and gratitude. Special prayers were offered for peace and progress in the state.
