Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has cautioned local government chairmen against mismanaging the financial autonomy recently granted to councils, urging them to focus on projects that will directly impact the grassroots.
Speaking in Igogo-Ekiti on Monday during the commissioning of projects by the Chairperson of Ero Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Felicia Ibiloye, the governor—represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye—stressed that the essence of financial independence is to deliver landmark initiatives in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and poverty alleviation.
Oyebanji inaugurated the new Ero LCDA Secretariat Complex, launched the Adire Ekiti fabric initiative, and flagged off the BAO Aged Foundation distribution of food and clothing palliatives. He commended Ibiloye for fostering peace along the state’s border with Kwara and for embarking on people-oriented projects such as erosion control, solar power installation, culverts, and market facilities.
The governor also urged citizens to support his re-election bid and participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
Ibiloye attributed her achievements to the financial autonomy enjoyed by councils under Oyebanji, assuring that all ongoing projects would be completed before the end of her tenure, in line with the governor’s vision for sustainable rural development.
