The 1984–1990 alumni set of Mary Immaculate Girls’ Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti, on Saturday held its maiden reunion at the school hall, bringing together former classmates 35 years after graduation.
The event, which drew members from within and outside the state, provided an opportunity for reminiscence, thanksgiving and celebration of the institution and its teachers who played significant roles in the academic and moral development of the group.
In her welcome address, the President of the set, Chief (Mrs.) Obanor Apeke, expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of members since they completed their secondary education.
She recalled memorable moments shared while in school, including the popular drama presentation entitled IWA, directed by the then Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Peter Boye Adeusi, as well as the academic realities of the 6-3-3-4 education system.

Apeke further noted that although the male students in the group were later transferred to Mary Hill Boys’ High School for their senior secondary education, the bond among them remained unbroken. She also offered prayers in memory of departed classmates and teachers.
The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Oladele Olajide, in his goodwill message, commended the alumni for sustaining unity and returning to celebrate the foundation that shaped their lives.
He urged members to support the school through educational development projects and mentorship programmes that would benefit current students.
Also speaking, the Special Guest of Honour, Comrade Olusola Adigun, praised the group for honouring their former teachers, describing the gesture as noble and exemplary.
He emphasized the role of alumni associations in school development and encouraged the group to sustain the reunion culture.
A major highlight of the occasion was the recognition of former principals and teachers for their contributions to the academic, moral and character formation of the set. Late teachers, including the former Physics teacher, Mr. Aluko, and Mathematics instructor, Mr. Akerele, popularly known as Orogbangba, were remembered with prayers.
The Secretary of the association, Mrs. Bola Adeniji appreciated all alumni members, invited guests and the planning committee for their support towards the success of the event.
She also expressed the commitment of the association to making the gathering an annual tradition to bring the old classmates together.
