Former Chairman of Ado Local Government , Hon. Omotunde Fajuyi, has described the administration of Governor Oyebanji as the worst in the state, alleged that the governor has been using state resources to settle certain interests to remain in power .
Speaking at a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Fajuyi, who represented the Ekiti Liberation Agenda (ELA), expressed deep concern over the political and developmental state of Ekiti since its creation in 1996. She noted that despite a significant increase in statutory allocations to the state in recent years, Ekiti is yet to attain meaningful socio-economic progress.
According to her, funds accrued to the state within the last three years alone are said to have doubled what previous administrations received collectively, yet the impact of such resources has not been felt by the people. She described the situation as disappointing and indicative of governance failure.
Hon. Fajuyi accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining internal democracy, alleging that aspirants including Engineer Kayode Ojo and Mrs. Olajumoke Olawumi were disqualified from party primaries without justifiable reasons. She said the alleged injustices forced several members to abandon the party.
She further alleged that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been recklessly spending Ekiti State resources to settle political interests in a bid to remain in power, a development she said has heightened public dissatisfaction.
Raising alarm over the removal of Dr. Oluyede’s name from INEC’s list, Fajuyi claimed that the electoral body had reportedly stated it was “acting on orders.” She maintained that INEC officials monitored and witnessed the PDP governorship primary that produced Oluyede, stressing that his exclusion therefore lacked legal and moral justification.
She called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently address what she described as the unlawful exclusion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, from the list of contestants for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
She called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and ensure that due process is followed, warning that continued exclusion of the PDP candidate could escalate political tension within Ekiti State and beyond. She added that women and other concerned citizens would not remain silent if the issue is ignored.
Fajuyi clarified that she is not a member of any political party, noting that the Ekiti Liberation Agenda is a non-partisan coalition of concerned Ekiti indigenes committed to justice, fairness, and good governance. She also alleged that powerful interests were responsible for the removal of Oluyede’s name.
Describing the level of development in the state as grossly inadequate, Fajuyi said the Oyebanji administration has underperformed and emphasized the need for credible leadership that reflects the will of the people.
She tasked INEC to act transparently and independently by restoring Dr. Wole Oluyede’s name as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2026 election.
“Our demand is simple,” she said. “INEC must correct this anomaly and uphold the integrity of the electoral process. Democracy can only thrive when the rule of law is respected and the will of the people is not subverted.”
