Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools across the state due to prevailing security concerns.
The directive, which takes effect from Wednesday, February 4, 2026, instructs schools to proceed on an emergency mid-term break without announcing any resumption date.
The order was communicated through an urgent notice issued by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter. The association stressed strict compliance, warning that any school that flouts the directive risks having its operational approval withdrawn.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman of NAPPS, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, schools were clearly instructed to suspend academic activities immediately. He noted that proprietors must not fix or announce a resumption date, as the security situation remains uncertain.
“This directive is due to security issues. All schools in Kogi State must go on emergency mid-term break from Wednesday, 4th February, 2026. Please comply strictly, as failure to do so will attract severe consequences, including revocation of approval,” the statement read.
The government described the measure as a precautionary step, adding that the situation is still evolving and that further decisions will be communicated in due course.
Parents and guardians have been advised to remain calm and stay informed through official government channels, while school administrators have been urged to fully comply with the directive pending further instructions from the state government.
