A community-based group, the Ilogbo Ekiti Development and Growth Agenda (IDEGA), has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Ekiti State Government against tampering with the long-standing zoning arrangement in Ido/Osi Constituency II ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti and signed by its President, Dr. Abayomi Kayode, and General Secretary, Hon. Kolapo Adeola, the group described as “dangerous and unacceptable” any move to abandon the rotational agreement that has guided the emergence of candidates in the constituency since 1999.
IDEGA said its intervention became necessary following speculations that the incumbent lawmaker, Yomi Ayorinde, may be granted a second-term ticket through a consensus arrangement, contrary to the established zoning principle.
According to the group, the constituency has maintained a peaceful and equitable power-sharing formula among its constituent communities—Ayetoro Ekiti, Usi Ekiti, Ilogbo Ekiti, and Osi Ekiti—based on a single four-year term rotation.
It noted that historical records show that Ayetoro, Osi, and Usi Ekiti have each produced two legislators since 1999, while Ilogbo Ekiti has had only one opportunity.
“By every standard of fairness, equity, and justice, it is the turn of Ilogbo Ekiti to produce the next representative of Ido/Osi Constituency II in 2027,” the statement read.
IDEGA stressed that the zoning arrangement has been instrumental in sustaining unity, peace, and political stability in the area, warning that any attempt to alter it could trigger avoidable tension and disrupt the existing harmony among the people.
The group further pointed out that no lawmaker in the constituency has secured a second consecutive term since the advent of the current democratic dispensation in 1999, describing the alleged move as a departure from established precedent.
It, therefore, urged the leadership of the APC and the state government, particularly Governor Biodun Oyebanji, to act swiftly to forestall any crisis by ensuring that the zoning pact remains intact.
“The sanctity of this agreement must be preserved in the interest of peace and fairness. Any deviation will be resisted by the people,” the group warned.
IDEGA concluded by calling on political stakeholders to place collective interest above personal ambition, emphasizing that adherence to agreed rotational arrangements remains key to sustaining peaceful coexistence and democratic stability in the constituency.
