Honourable Gboyega Aribisogan representing Ikole Ekiti constituency 1 has been elected as the new Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly
Aribisogan, a two-term lawmaker, was elected at the plenary on Tuesday, having polled 15 votes to defeat Olubunmi Adelugba from Emure Constituency who have 10 votes.
Aribisogan hails from Ijesha-Isu Ekiti. Until his emergence, he was the Leader Government Business in the Assembly.
Aribisogan was sworn in as speaker by the clerk of the house, Mr Tola Esan.
In his reaction, the new speaker appreciated his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him. Saying, “I pledge to discharge my duties to the best of my ability and protect the constitution of the country and standing rules of the House of Assembly. I promise to remain committed to my duties as speaker of this honourable Assembly.”
The emergence of Mr Biodun Oyebanji as the governor and the demise of the former speaker, Funminiyi Afuye ocassioned change in the leadership structure of the House which favoured Hon. Aribisogan .
