The Project Coordinator, Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (EK-RAAMP) Hon. Sunday Adunmo has said the inclusion of Ekiti State in the world Bank Project would make rural communities in the State enjoy good roads network.
While speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti, Hon. Adunmo commended the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for his massive transformation programmes and projects in Ekiti State which he said had necessitated the flag off construction work on six pilot roads last year. Saying, the flag off qualifies the State to be among the 19 participating States.
The Project Coordinator reiterated the commitment of the state towards speedy commencement of the 1000km of rural roads construction across the 16 local government areas of the state. Saying, asphalt laying had begun on one of the six roads.
While allaying fears over the continuity of the RAAMP programme in the State, following the expiration of Fayemi’s tenure by October 15, 2022. Hon.Adunmo said the Governor- Elect, Biodun Oyebanji was part of the Fayemi-led administration which initiated Ekiti’s inclusion in RAAMP, adding that Oyebanji had expressed readiness to make rural road construction a key component of his administration’s agricultural development agenda.
The State Project Coordinator opined that the RAAMP initiative would afford farmers opportunity to easily move their farm produce to the market, thereby promoting the economy of Ekiti State. Hon. Adunmo stressed further that fixing the rural roads would reduce waste and improve the living standard of the farmers which in return add to the revenue generation of the State.
Adunmo said the ongoing construction of cargo airport in Ado Ekiti would be of immense benefit to the RAAMP project, adding that the State would judiciously use the airport to transporting farm produce to other States and countries.
The State coordinator assured that in few months, the State would commence construction of many rural roads and market hubs with the aim of making agriculture a lucrative business for farmers and making Ekiti State the food basket of South West, Nigeria.
