The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved the appointment of Prince Fagbayi Feyisayo Ige as the new Olumojo of Imojo-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area, following the successful completion of all statutory and traditional procedures required under the Chiefs Law of Ekiti State.
The approval was announced after the council noted that the Olumojo stool is a recognised chieftaincy under the Chiefs Law, Cap. C5, Laws of Ekiti State (2012), with a registered Chieftaincy Declaration providing for two ruling houses—Fabunmi and Atoriseyasokunrin—and six kingmakers responsible for the selection of a new monarch. The stool became vacant following the death of the immediate past Olumojo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olatunji Samuel, on January 29, 2024.
In line with the registered Chieftaincy Declaration, the Fabunmi Ruling House, being the next ruling house entitled to produce the monarch, was directed by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Home Affairs to commence the selection process.
The six kingmakers, after consultations and in accordance with established traditional procedures, including Ifa divination, unanimously selected Prince Fagbayi Feyisayo Ige as the most suitable candidate from the three eligible princes presented by the Fabunmi Ruling House.
Consequently, the Executive Council approved his appointment as the Olumojo of Imojo-Ekiti and authorised the publication of the necessary Legal Notice in the Ekiti State Government Gazette to give legal effect to the appointment.
The state government said the approval underscores the commitment of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to due process in the appointment of traditional rulers, while preserving Ekiti State’s cultural heritage and strengthening traditional institutions as key partners in grassroots governance, peace-building and community development.
