The President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria at the Council Chambers, Abuja.
Ariwoola, the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court was sworn-in after the resignation of the former CJN, Tanko Muhammad on ill- health.
Justice Ariwoola hails from Iseyin, Oyo State, born on 22 August, 1958.He was a former Justice of the Court of Appeal before his elevation to the Supreme Court bench in 2011.
While appreciating the outgoing CJN for his meritorious service to Nigeria, President Buhari honoured Justice Tango Muhammad with The Commander of Order of the Niger( CON)
Recalled the outgoing CJN resigned on ill- health ground.Justice Tanko Muhammad had succeeded Walter Onneghen who was suspended for alleged false asset declaration.
Dignitaries at the swearing ceremony were: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, Director-General of the State Security Service, Yusuf Bichi, some justices of the supreme courts among others.
