As preparations intensify for the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, YIAGA Africa has strengthened its collaboration with the Ekiti State Police Command to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process.
The civic organization made this known during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, as part of efforts to deepen strategic partnerships ahead of the election.
Speaking during the visit, the YIAGA Africa delegation expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police for the existing cooperation and synergy between the organization and the Command. The group commended the professionalism and commitment of the Nigeria Police Force in promoting electoral integrity and maintaining public safety during previous electoral exercises.
The organization stressed the need for sustained collaboration among critical stakeholders involved in the electoral process and requested increased support from the Police Command in the lead-up to the election.
YIAGA Africa specifically called for adequate police protection for election observers, relevant officials, and electoral materials to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
Responding, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal assured the organization of the Command’s continued cooperation and unwavering support. He reaffirmed the readiness of the police to work closely with relevant stakeholders and pledged to provide the necessary security measures to guarantee a safe and secure environment before, during, and after the election.
The Commissioner emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the conduct of a peaceful election and maintaining law and order throughout the electoral period.
The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of YIAGA Africa and the Ekiti State Police Command to strengthening democratic governance and ensuring that the forthcoming governorship election is conducted in a peaceful, credible, and transparent manner.
The Ekiti governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
