Following the dissolution of his cabinet on Wednesday, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has named Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, mni, as the new Deputy governor.
Adelami, a native of Owo, Ondo state, a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and a civil servant with many years of experience.
In a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, said that Adelami’s nomination has been sent to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.
Ondo State House of Assembly is expected to delibrate on the Deputy Governor’s nomination tomorrow.
Adelami, attended Imade College in Owo, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and University of Lagos, where he obtained a B.Sc. in Business Administration. He also holds an MBA degree from Ogun State University.
He joined the Federal Civil Service as an Accountant II in 1983 and was posted to the National Assembly Provisional Office, Abuja, in 1988.
Adelami was instrumental to setting up the Finance and Accounts Department of the National Assembly, as well as the Accounts Departments of the Petroleum Special Trust Fund and the Family Support Trust Fund. He was also involved in the execution and delivery of the National Hospital, Abuja project.
Adelami rose through the ranks to become the Secretary (Permanent Secretary), Directorate of Procurement, Estate and Works in 2014, after completing a senior management course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, in 2008. He retired as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly in 2019.
Adelami is also a philanthropist who founded the ELIZABETH FOUNDATION in 2004 to support widows and orphans in Owo and Abuja. He earned the nickname “Husband of the widows” for his compassionate deeds. He also donated relief materials to the internally displaced persons during the crisis in Jos.
Besides his professional achievements, Chief Adelami is also a man of faith and compassion. He supported the Rural Missionary fields with funds to build places of worship in remote areas such as Plateau, Benue, and Nassarawa states.
He also served as the 2nd Vice Chairman of the National Board of Trustees Prison Fellowship for a long time, where he cared for the spiritual and physical well-being of prisoners. He visited them regularly and shared the gospel with them.
Chief Adelami also showed his love for music and education by founding and sponsoring the Music Department at the School of the Blinds in Gindiri, Plateau state. Through his generosity, many blind children have learned to play various musical instruments . The statement concluded.
