The chief Immam of Asu- ur- deen Central mosque, OdoOtu, Ado Ekiti, Alima Abdullahi Abdumakali Mohammad
has enjoined Nigeria journalists to be truthful and objective in their reportage, saying they are doing God’s work that attracts heavenly blessings .
The Chief Imam gave the advice during the jumat service at Ado Central Mosque as one of the programmes lined up to mark Ekiti NUJ Press Week. He likened journalists job to that of prophet of God who receives information from God and disseminates it to mankind.
While urging Journalists to be truthful, accurate and non bias in doing their job, the Immam reiterated that the masses rely on journalists to get informed and educated about happenings in the society, saying reporting false information would not only make the public not honour them but would be judged by Allah.
His words ” Your major task is that you should try to implement the truthfulness in your duties, internally and externally, the Job you are doing , you will receive reward from God. Don’t be biased in any form, politically, economically and ethnically, you must be truthful and straight forward, doing this effectively, God and mankind will reward you”
The Immam advised journalists to be careful, saying journalism is sensitive and delicate, he prayed to Allah to always guide them.
Speaking on behalf of the NUJ chairman, Alhaja Fatimoh Bello, the immediate past NAWOJ Chairperson, appreciated
the chief Immam and the congregation for their prayers for Ekiti journalists. She thanked Allah for His protection over Ekiti Journalists from the beginning of the year till date .
