Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has pledged to implement the newly signed national minimum wage law for workers at both local and state government levels.
Oyebanji, during the presentation of a 3.5 billion naira check to settle gratuities for state and local government pensioners, reaffirmed his commitment to the payment of the minimum wage, which has the legal backing.
He also assured that the adjustment would benefit both pensioners and active workers.
The governor emphasized that his administration would not negotiate a lower minimum wage than what has been established at the national level.
He said that his administration has paid over 7 billion naira in gratuities to 2,687 pensioners in the state in the last two years.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Ekiti State, Elder Joel Akinola, praised the governor for the timely payment of pensions, noting that it has improved pensioners’ financial stability.
The state’s Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, expressed gratitude to the retirees for their support, assuring them that their welfare remains a top priority for the administration.
