The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Wednesday commended the national and state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for conducting what he described as a peaceful, smooth and credible House of Assembly primary election in Ekiti State.
Olatunbosun gave the commendation after casting his vote at Igbemo Ward in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Constituency 2, where the APC conducted its primary election to select the party’s candidate for the 2027 House of Assembly election. He said the exercise was transparent, inclusive and a reflection of the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
According to him, the adoption of the Option A4 voting system by the APC had continued to strengthen democratic participation within the party, as aspirants were allowed to freely test their popularity before party members across the constituency.
He explained that the APC had earlier conducted successful National Assembly primaries before proceeding with the House of Assembly exercise on Wednesday, adding that voters openly expressed their choices through the queue-based voting process.
The commissioner noted that the primary election in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Constituency 2 was also guided by a zoning arrangement aimed at promoting fairness and inclusiveness among communities within the constituency. He said the decision became necessary because some towns had not produced representatives since 1999.
“What we started with was that the party agreed to zone the ticket to a particular town that has not produced a representative since 1999. We believe it is important to be fair and just to all parts of the constituency,” he said.
Olatunbosun recalled that Igbemo Ward had produced representatives for four consecutive terms since 1999, including himself in 2003, Barrister Odry in 2011 and the incumbent lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Akeem Jamiu, who also participated in the contest. He disclosed that Chukwuemeka Boluwatife Fayose recorded a decisive victory in Igbemo Ward with a wide margin.
He urged all aspirants to remain sportsmanlike after the contest, stressing that internal democracy required respect for the collective decision of party members. Olatunbosun also praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the APC leadership at both state and national levels for promoting inclusiveness and unity within the party.
Speaking separately, Fayose, son of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose expressed confidence in winning the Assembly primary. He described the primary election as peaceful and well coordinated. He commended security personnel, electoral officials and party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise and expressed optimism of emerging victorious at the end of the contest.
Fayose added that he monitored activities across other wards after voting and observed that the process was peaceful in all areas visited. He called on APC members to remain united after the primary and work together for the progress of the party and development of the constituency.
