The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Dr. (Mrs) Folakemi Olomojobi has reiterated Ekiti State Government’s commitment to making more science and technology inclined students by given them necessary support .
Declaring 2022 World Science Day celebration opened at Christ Girls School, Ado-Ekiti, with th theme ‘Basic Science for Sustainable Development’, Dr Olomojobi said needed impetus to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals would adequately be provided.
She appreciated the roles of science in man’s day to day activities, describing science as life and urged parents to cooperate with the state government vision of building great future scientists of Ekiti State origin.
She stressed that the annual event will serve as a workable strategy to revamp science education in the society as she charged students to be studious and meticulous in their educational pursuit, echoing that it would enable them stand tall wherever they find themselves.
Olomojobi implored teachers not to relent at impacting knowledge on the students and to keep on supporting their lofty dreams in every way possible.
Students from various schools across Ekiti State displayed their science projects exhibition ranging from Tank water control system, Solar cooker, Inverter, Mathematics and Science board game, Sewage Treatment plant, conversion of plastic polymer waste to interlocks, etc.
Earlier in her opening remark, the Director Science Technology and Mathematics, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Mrs Tolulope Olaosebikan eulogized the state government under the leadership of Mr Biodun Oyebanji for the support of science in the state and pleaded for more sponsorship of Ekiti science students in the national competitions.
There was goodwill message from the representative of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, Ekiti State chapter Mr Asubiojo Olaoluwa.
In separate interviews, some of the participating students, Adetona Olamide of Christline Secondary School, Ido Ekiti and Ajayi Blessing of Government College,Efon Alaye expressed their joy in the enabling environment given to them by the state government to exhibit their talent through the project exhibition and urged government not to relent in sponsorship of science education.
Prizes were later given to the three best students in sciences in SSS one to three categories and participants in the debate competition.
