Mr. Davidson Akinlayo, a member representing Ekiti Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called on groups planning protests across major cities on August 1st to reconsider their plans.
Addressing journalists at the APC Stakeholders Caucus meeting held at the residence of former governor Otunba Niyi Adebayo in Iyin Ekiti, Akinlayo urged the public to exercise patience and assured them that the current challenges facing the nation would soon be overcome.
While acknowledging Nigerians’ constitutional right to demand better living conditions, Akinlayo urged youths to give the government a chance to address these challenges.
He argued that there is no bad governance in Nigeria, emphasizing that progress is being made and that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working diligently to bring relief to the people.
“Things are very hard now, and we are not disputing that, but protest is not the way out,” Akinlayo stated.
He encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace peace and dialogue with the government.
Akinlayo also highlighted the issue of trust, stating, “What I think is lacking is trust; people don’t trust the government anymore.
The government needs to earn the trust of the masses and disseminate every piece of information and government programs down to the grassroots.”
He reminded the public that the federal government has distributed rice, garri, and millets to the states and emphasized the need for state and local governments to complement federal efforts in reaching out to the public.
Akinlayo expressed that President Tinubu’s initiatives for the masses are substantial and that the renewed hope agenda would be fully visible in less than a year.
He mentioned that plans are underway for the procurement of about 12,000 tractors and predicted that goods and services, including food, would soon be plentiful and affordable for Nigerians.
