Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has sought the support of Journalists in the state for Governor Oyebanji’s administration, saying the pivotal roles of journalists in nation building cannot be undermined.
Dr. Oyebanji made the plea on Wednesday while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council led by Comrade Kayode Babatuyi. She said journalists are partners in progress in nation building.
While soliciting their support, the first lady hinted that Governor Oyebanji has the love of the state at heart, reason why he had initiated policies and programmes that are changing the narratives in the state, adding that the initiatives have not only impacted positively on Ekiti residents but have given the state international recognition.
Dr Olayemi applauded the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council and promised to support their visions.” Your roles in nation building are paramount, I will support you and I want you to continue to project the good works my husband is doing in Ekiti.He has good plans for the state, we may not have gotten to where we are going but his developmental programmes are visible in the state, so let’s us support ourselves. Ekiti state is our state and we must collectively develop it ”
The first lady further tasked Journalists to be more professional in their reportage for them to earn society’s respect and pledged to attend the October Press Week of the Union.
Earlier, the Ekiti NUJ Chairman, Mr Kayode Babatuyi commended the developmental strides of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, especially for giving attention to priorities of Ekiti residents. He stressed that the union would continue to project good performance in the state.
The chairman reiterated that Governor Oyebanji is a friend of the union, saying he has given Ekiti journalists conducive space to do their job. He appealed to the performing Governor to assist the union build a beffiting press centre.
He lauded the initiative of Dr Olayemi Oyebanji’s women empowerment, particularly the Adire Ekiti scheme.
