The Ekiti State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched its 2026 Sallah Special Patrol Operation, deploying 783 personnel across the state to ensure safe movement of motorists and commuters during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, disclosed this in a statement in Ado-Ekiti, saying the operation was designed to reduce road crashes and guarantee safety before, during and after the festive period.
According to him, the command has mobilised regular marshals, special marshals and traffic volunteers, supported with 13 patrol vehicles, two ambulances and one towing truck for rapid emergency response.
Adeoye stated that operatives would be stationed on major highways and strategic locations across the state, including the Ado-Ekiti–Akure Expressway, Ado-Ekiti–Ikere–Akure Road, Ado-Ekiti–Ijan–Ifaki–Otun Road, Ido-Ekiti–Oye–Omuo Road, as well as within the Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
He explained that the special patrol, which commenced on May 25, would run till May 31, 2026, with 24-hour patrol coverage and emergency rescue services throughout the period.
The sector commander said the operation would focus on curbing major traffic offences such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, overloading, route violation, driving against traffic, and non-use of seat belts and crash helmets.
He added that mobile courts had been established in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti and Oye-Ekiti for the swift prosecution of traffic offenders during the operation. Adeoye urged transport unions, religious leaders and passengers to support the campaign against reckless driving, stressing that road safety remains a collective responsibility.
“We cannot do this alone. I call on all transport unions, religious leaders and passengers to join us in this campaign. Speak up against reckless driving. A safe Sallah is our collective responsibility,” he said.
The FRSC boss also advised motorists to avoid night journeys, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He assured residents that rescue teams and ambulances had been placed on standby for quick response to emergencies, urging members of the public to contact the FRSC toll-free emergency line 122 or the Ekiti Command emergency number 09139600802 when necessary.
Adeoye further wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration while urging all road users to obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly
