The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who also represents Ekiti Central, has refuted accusations that he is working against the interests of the Yoruba people by allegedly opposing the idea of regional government.
The Senator addressed these claims while speaking to journalists in Ado Ekiti, dismissing them as baseless rumors spread by detractors intent on driving a wedge between him and the Yoruba community.
Bamidele clarified that there is currently no bill on regionalism before the National Assembly, making the allegations groundless.
He stressed that the absence of such legislation means there is nothing for him to either support or oppose at this time.
The senator urged the public not to fall for the tactics of “fifth columnists” who are attempting to misrepresent his stance on important issues.
In defending his record, Bamidele pointed to his leadership role in working alongside the other 18 senators from the southern region to ensure the successful passage of a bill for the creation of the South West Development Commission.
This bill, designed to advance the economic and infrastructural development of the South West, is now awaiting the President’s signature upon his return from vacation.
Bamidele reaffirmed his dedication to promoting the interests of both the Ekiti people and the broader Yoruba nation.
He emphasized that, as Senate Leader, his actions have consistently reflected his commitment to the progress of his constituency and region.
He urged critics to examine his legislative track record, which includes significant efforts aimed at fostering development in the South West and advocating for the rights and needs of his people within the National Assembly.
